Adam Kostiw, Hons. BA Psych., MDiv., RP
Adam is a Registered Psychotherapist who is both compassionate and caring with a heart for assisting others to make positive changes in their lives. He spent much of his early career working with non-profits before returning to York University where he received his undergraduate honour’s degree in psychology.
He then received his Master of Divinity in Clinical Counselling while focussing on family systems theory and couples therapy. Adam spent numerous years working on a Trauma Focussed Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT) project as part of a research team at York University.
Adam considers the therapeutic alliance (bond) between the client and therapist to be the cornerstone of the therapeutic process. Everyone needs and deserves a safe and trusting place and with this, the healing process can begin.
Adam strongly believes in a collaborative approach to therapy and that all clients have the strength to achieve their goals.
Adam believes that everyone is an individual and each therapy session must be specifically designed for that individual.
For this reason, Adam can utilize a variety of different therapeutic approaches which include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focussed Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-focused therapy, and Couples and family systems therapies.
Adam believes that education and awareness involving mental health is important for each and everyone one of us and is an integral part of developing a stronger community.
Adam’s goal is to collaborate with the client in achieving their goals and overall well-being.
