At Trafalgar Addiction Treatment Centres, clients are screened over the phone to determine whether medical or non-medical detox is required prior to admission. Clients who have been clean and sober for a minimum of 72 hours prior to admission typically do not require further detox. If medical detox is required, we work in association with an outside service provider and are able to seamlessly transition the client from detox directly into a Trafalgar treatment facility.
Length of stay at a medical detox centre ranges from 3 to 7 days. Typically once the doctor determines the client is no longer medically at risk, they may be discharged. Throughout the detox process, clients are supervised on a 24 hour basis.
It’s important to note that detox is not appropriate treatment for drug or alcohol addiction, no matter what the substance of choice is. Detox alone might help the patient to stop abusing drugs and alcohol in the short term, but without follow-up care and therapy, the risk of relapse into problematic use increases greatly.
